የቀድሞው የኢትዮጵያ ንጉስ የነበሩት ቀዳማዊ ሀይለስላሴ እና ታዋቂው አትሌት ሀይሌ ገ\ስላሴ በአፍሪካ አሕጉር ውስጥ ከፍተኛ ሚና ከተጫወቱት ወይም በመጫወት ላይ ከሚገኙት ሃምሳ “እንቁ” የአሕጉሪቱ ልጆች መካከል ስማቸው ተካተተ፡ለንደን ውስጥ በእንግሊዘኛ ቋንቋ የሚታተመው ወርሃዊው ፎክስ ኦን አፍሪካ መጸሔት በቅርቡ በመላው አለም ለሚገኙ በሚሊዮኖች ለሚቆጠሩ አምባቢዎቹ ባወጣው የአህጉሪቱ “የሁል ጊዜ ታላልቅ ሰዎች ” የምረጡ ማስታወቂያ መሰረት አፍሪካ ውስጥ ቀደም ሲል በተካሄዱ ወይም በመካሄድ ላይ ባሉ ፖለቲካዊ፣ማህበራዊ እንዲሁም ኢኮነሚያዊ እንቅስቃሴዎች አኳያ አጼ ሀይለስላሴ እና አትሌት ሀይሌ ገ\ስላሴ ከፍተኛ ድምጽ በማግኘት በመልካም አርያነት ሊጠቀሱ ከሚገባችው ሃምሳ(50) የአፍሪካ ታላላቅ ስዎች ተርታ የስም ዝርዝራቸው ሰፍሯል፡:

የተለያዩ የመብት ረገጣዎች መፈጸማቸውን በምሪት የሚናገሩ ወገኖች አልታጡም ፡፡በሌላ በኩል ንጉሱ ኢትዮጵያን ወደ ዘመናዊ ሰልጣኔ ለማሸጋገር የትምህርት ፣ የጤና ፣የመንገድ ፣ የኢንዱስትሪ … ወዘተ ተቋማት እንዲስፋፉ በማድረግ ረገድ የማይናቅ ሚና መጫወታቸውን የሚመስክሩ ወግኖች በርካታዎች ናቸው ::
በለንደን የአፍሪካ እና የኦሪንታል የጥናት ዮኒቭርስቲ ውስጥ በምስራቅ አፍሪካ ዙሪያ ተመራማሪ በመሆን ወደ ኢትዮጵያ በተለያዩ ጊዚያት ጎራ እንደሚሉ የተናገሩት ሚስተር ካርል (ትክክለኛ ስማቸው አይደለም) ከዚህ ጸሐፊ ጋር ባደርጉት ቃለ ምልልስ ” አጼ ሀይለስላሴ ኢትዮጵያ በውጪው አለም እንድትታወቅ ከፍተኛ ጥረት ካደረጉ ጥቂት መሪዎች መካከል በቀዳሚነት ሊጠቅሱ ይችላሉ ፡፡

ደረስ የተቀረው አለም የሰላም እንቅልፍ ሊተኛ እንደማይችል በማስገንዘብ ፣ የተቃረኑ ወገኖችን በክብ ጠረጴዛ ዙሪያ በማስታረቅ ፣የአፍሪካ ህብረት ዋና መቀመጫውን በአ\አ አንዲያደርግ መሪዎችን በማሳመን ረገድ…ወዘተ የንጉሱ ተጋድሎ ቀላል አልነበረም ፡፡ ዛሬ የአለም መሪዎች አብይ የመነጋገሪያ ርዕስ የሆነው የኒዩክለር እና የጅምላ ጨራሽ የጦር መሳሪያዎች መወገድን በተመለከተ አጼ ሀይለስላሴ ቀደም ብለው በተለያዩ የአለም አቀፍ መድረኮች ላይ በጽኑ ሲሰብኩ የነበሩ ብርቱ መሪ ናቸው” ብለዋል፡፡ እያንዳንዱ መሪ የራሱ ጠንካራ ጎን እንዳልው ሁሉ የራሱ የሆነ ደካማ ጎን አያጣውም ያሉት እኚሁ ምሁር በወቅቱ ተነስቶ የነበረውን የመሬት ለአራሹ ጥያቄ፣ የድብቁ ረሃብ ፣የደሞዝ ጭማሪ ጥያቄ… ወዘተ ቀደም ብለው ወይም በጊዜው ለመመለስ ያለመቻላቸው ለውድቀታቸው መፋጠን ዋንኛ መንስኤዎች ከሆኑት መካካል ጥቂቶቹ አንደነበሩ ጠቅሰዋል ፡፡ አስተያየታቸውን በመቀጠልም ” ከንጉሱ ውድቀት በሁዋላ ያ የኢትዮጵያ ገናና ታሪክ ተነዶ አገሪቱ ሆነች ህዝቦቿ በረሃብተኛ ፣በሰደተኛ፣ለተለያዩ በሽታዎች እና የርስ በርስ ግጭቶች ምሳሌነት ለመጠራት በቅተዋል” ሲሉ ምሁራዊ አስተያየታቸውን ሰንዝረዋል፡፡በአጠቃላይ ቀዳማዊ ሀይለስላሴ ለኢትዮጵያ ሆነ በማደግ ላይ ላሉት የአፍሪካ ፣የላቲን አሜሪካ እና የካሪቤያን አገሮች ካደርጉት አስተዋጽኦ አኳያ “በእንቁ ሰዎች” ተርታ መመረጣቸው ተገቢ መሆኑን ሳይገልጹ አላለፉም፡፡
አጼ ሀይለስላሴን በተለያዩ መድረኮች ላይ እንዳዩዋቸው የሚናገሩት አቶ ማን ከለክሎት አድማሱ የተባሉ አዛውንት በበኩላቸው ለዚህ ጸሐፊ ሲናገሩ ” ግርማዊነታቸው ህዝቡ ሃይማኖቱን፣አንድነቱን እና ባህሉን ጠብቆ እንዲቆይ ከማድረጋቸው የተነሳ በአካል የማያውቋቸው ወጣት ኢትዮጵያዊያን ሆኑ የሌሎች አገር ዜጎች ዛሬ የንጉሱን ስም እና ምስል ያለባቸውን ካንቲሪዎችን ፣ጃኬቶችን እና ኮፍያዎችን … ወዘተ በማጥለቅ ታዋቂ አርቲስቶችም ቢሆኑ ሰለ ንጉሱ ገናናነትን የሚያወድሱ ዘፈኖችን በማቀንቀን ለንጉሱ ያላቸውን ልዩ ፍቅር ሲያሳዩ ይታያሉ፡፡ሌላው ቀረቶ በሃይማኖት ረገድ እንኳን በአሁኑ ወቅት የግርማዊነታቸው ስም በሁሉም የኢ\ኦ\ተ\ቤ\ን የዕለት ጽሎት ፣የወር እና የአመት ክብረ ባዕላት ላይ በክብር ከሚጠሩት ጥቂት የቀድሞ ደጋግ የኢትዮጵያ መሪዎች መካከል አንዱ መሆናቸው በራሱ ዛሬ ድረስ ከአርባ ሚሊዮኖች በላይ ከሚቆጠሩ ምዕመናን ጋር ያላቸውን ቀጥተኛ የሆነ የመንፈሳዊ ቁርኝትን ያመላክታል” በለዋል፡፡
በዚህ የመጽሔቱ የአምባቢዎች ነጻ ምርጫ ከፍተኛ ድምጽ በማግኘት ስማቸው ከተካተተው ሁለት ኢትዮጵያዊያን አንዱ የሆነው አትሌት ሀይሌ ገ\ስላሴ ሲሆን ሀይሌ የተለያዩ ሃያ ሰባት ሪኮርዶችን በመስበር እና የወቅቱ የማራቶን ሪኮርድ ባለቤት በመሆን በአፍሪካ ሆነ በአለም የአትሌቲክስ የውድድር መድረኮች ላይ ለረጅም አመታት አሸናፊ በመሆን ለአድናቂዎቹ ጥሩ አርያ የመሆኑ ጉዳይ የብዙዎቹ የመጽሔቱን አምባቢዎች ቀልብን ለመሳብ አንዳስቻለለት ተገምቷል፡፡ከሩጫው ሜዳ ባሻገር በኢንስትመንት መስኩ በለስ የቀናው ሀይሌ በቅርቡ በአንድ የገዢው ፓርቲ አመታዊ ስብሰባ ላይ በመገኘት “ፖለቲካዊ አንድምታ” እንዳለው የተገመተ አስተያየት በመስጠቱ ሳቢያ ” እንዴ ሀይሌም እጅ ሰጠ ?” የሚል ጥያቄ ከበርካታ አድናቂዎቹ ዘንድ አስከትሎ አንደነበር አይዘነጋም፡፡በተጨማሪም በንግዱ መስክ ከአቶ መለስ ባለቤት ወ\ሮ አዜብ ጋር ሸሪክ እንዲሆን ፖለቲካዊ ጫና እየተደረገበት መሆኑን እና የተንቀሳቃሸ ስልኩ (ሞባይሉ) በኢሀዲግ የደህንነት ሰዎች የጠለፉበታል… ወዘተ ለሚሉ አስተያየቶች በተመለከተ ሀይሌ ማስተባበሉን ሮይተርስ የተባለው የዜና አገልግሎት ሰሞኑን ዘግቧል፡፡

እኔ በሁለቱም ምርጫ አልስማማም;;በተለይ አጼ ህይለስላሴ በተለይ በ እርሳቸው የስልጣን ጥም በፊውዳል በርግጥ ከፊል ካፒታሊስት ስር አት ሀገራችንንወደ ዲሞክራሲያዊ ስር አት ሳታመራ ስልጣናቸውን የረባ ለውጥ ሳያመጡ የቀሩ ደካማ መሪ ናቸው;;ይሄ የምርጫ ሃሳብ የመጣው በውጭ ከሚገኘው የዘውድ አሰባሳቢ ምክር ቤት ከሚባል የስልጣን ጥም ካላቸውደካሞች የተጠቆመ ይመስለኛል;;እነዚህ ንጉሳዊ ቤተሰቦች አሁንም ሀገሪቱ እንደ እንግሊዝ royal familyክብርና ዝናን አግኝተው ለመኖር ያልማሉ;;የ እንግሊዝ ንጉሳዊ ቤተሰቦች ለሀገሪቱና ለህዝቡ ታላቅ እድገትን አምጥተዋል;;የኛዎቹ ግን ቆዳቸውን እያዋደዱ የህዝባችንን ደም ሲመጡ የኖሩ ተባዮች ናቸው;;የሚገርመው ነገር ሀይለስላሴ በደርግ እጃቸው በተያዘበት ወቅት አንድ ጠቆር ያለ ወታደር የጎንደር ሰውን አንተም ኢትዮጵያዊ ነህ ብለው እንደሳቁበት በነበር መጽሀፍ ግጽ 141 ተጠቅሶ ይገኛል;;ሌላው ደካማነታቸው ተራ ሰው ማች መሆናቸውን ረስተው የጃማይካን ህዝብ እርሳቸውን ሳይሆን ፈጣሪን እንዲያመልክ እንኩዋን አንዲት ቃል አለመተንፈሳቸው የመያሳዝን እና የሚያሳፍር የታሪካቸው አካል ነው;;
ሀይሌን በተመለከተ ግን የወያኔ ተጽ እኖ በጣም ሳይበረታበት አልቀረም;;ይሁን እንጂበዚህ ክፉ ጊዜ ከኢትዮጵያውያን ጋር ስላልቆመ አይገባውም

The westren countries have worked day and night to destroy ethiopia, and they have used different forces, one of their forces was hailselasie and now Meles. The west had never pushed that dictatorial and cruel king to reform or to give political power to the young generation. Colonel Abdissa Aga was born in Welega. His
father lost his temper and killed his own
brother when Abdissa was about 12 years old.
Though he went as far as Addis Ababa to
appeal for the release of his father, he was
executed. Sad and embittered, he joined the
Ethiopian Army around the age of 14 and
fought against Fascist Italy in 1936 in Ethiopia.
He was captured and imprisoned in a
concentration camp in the island of Sicily in
Italy. There he met Captain Julio, a Yugoslav
hero.
The two became friends and made a daring
escape from the concentration camp taking
with them a dozen prisoners to the woods.
They returned to the camp a few days later, at
night, led by young Abdissa who was terribly
feared by the Italians. Abdissa choked and
silenced the guards. He and Julio took off the
uniforms of the guards. Two of the former
prisoners wore the uniforms, held the guns of
the dead soldiers, and stood at the gate of the
camp pretending to be Fascist watchmen.
Abdissa and Julio, followed by the other
partisans Penetrated the camp, released all of
the prisoners, fought with some of the Fascist
officers, robbed them off their ammunitions
and supplies, as well as trucks full of
weapons, and drove back to the woods.
They continued to fight in that manner freeing
prisoners and robbing concentration camps,
banks, government warehouses, etc. until
their number grew to an army, and until the
Italian Government battled with them fiercely.
The partisans chose Abdissa to be their
leader and called him Major. The Italian
Fascists were terrified since they knew how
brave Ethiopians were recalling the Battle of
Dogali, Ambalage, Adwa, Maichew and
remembering the bravery of Zerai Deres,
whom later, Abdissa tried in vain to see and
hug. Taking advantage of the fear of the Italian
people, Italian gangsters painted their faces
cook and started robbing banks and pillaging
villages imposing as Abdissa and other
Ethiopians who were also partisans together
with him. Abdissa caught these awe-inspiring
gangsters and executed them, since they
were discrediting his name by their atrocious
acts. The Italian Government did all it could to
catch Abdissa by force. As they failed to do
so, they tried to cajole and allure him by
promising him a big post and by begging him
to stop fighting and join their ranks. If I recall
correctly, Abdissa shot the Italian officer who
brought him the letter from the Italian
Government.
Finally, the Second World War broke out. The
Allied forces, Britain, the USA, France and
Russia recognized Major Abdissa, Captain
Julio and the rest of the partisans and began
to supply them with arms and provisions.
Major Abdissa Aga was chosen to lead the
international army of partisans (former
prisoners) which consisted of Americans,
English, French, Ethiopians and other
nationals. Captain Julio became the
commander of the Yugoslav partisans. This
way the partisans weakened Italy and
contributed to their defeat. Major Abdissa Aga
was the first hero who entered and captured
the city of Rome sitting in a jeep, waving first
and foremost the flag of Ethiopia, which was
also tied around the arms of his international
soldiers including Americans, French and
English. When the armies of the allies
reached Rome, they honored Major Abdissa
Aga highly. The British made him the
Commander of the British Military Police and
sent him to Germany to fight against the
German Army. He battled with the German
Nazis in different cities, defeated them,
controlled the cities and villages, and entered
Berlin triumphantly again waving Ethiopian
and British flags. He was in the spot light all
over the world.
At the end of the war, the British, the
Canadians and the Americans wanted him to
join their armies promising him high ranks. He
refused adamantly saying that though his
motherland, Ethiopia, was poor, he would still
return to her and see the face of his Emperor
whom he had missed for so long. This
incensed the Allies, and believe it or not, they
accused him of ravaging the Italian Fascists
when he was a partisan. The French, the
British, the Americans, even the Russians to
some extent condemned him. Fortunately, a
noble British general who had decorated him
with medals previously fought for his release
changing the prison sentence to financial fine,
which was paid by Abdissa himself and the
British Government.
The great Ethiopian hero finally returned to
Ethiopia longing to see his country and
Emperor. The Emperor welcomed him and
sent him to Ras Abebe Aregai, the then
Minister of Defense so that he would employ
him. Ras Abebe and some of the most
important patriots Ethiopia were scared of
Abdissa’s valor and feared
for their own positions. So, instead of
promoting him to a general, Ras Abebe sent
Major Abdissa to the Holeta Military Academy
as a simple cadet. After several months of
hardship in Holeta he graduated as a first
lieutenant, to the surprise of the British
officers whom Abdissa used to command
when they were in Europe. Abdissa was
oppressed in the Ethiopian Army. He was sent
to the Ogaden and fought against the Somali
invaders displaying incredible courage and
military tactics. In spite of what he did to raise
the pride of Ethiopia and to safeguard her
territorial integrity, he didn’t rise above the
rank of a captain for many, many years until
somebody (they say Captain Julio and
Marshal Tito) drew the attention of the
Emperor towards the end of the Emperor’s life
and regime. The Emperor raised his rank to
colonel and made him his bodyguard. Colonel
Abdissa Aga the great died a few years after
the 1974 Ethiopian Revolution

I do not think Sheger really knows what he is talking about, regarding Emperor Haile Selassie. I can tell you what he did very briefly. The Emperor was a visionary leadership who believed the coexistence of Ethiopians who came from all walks of life A man who put Ethiopia above everything else. A man who worked hard to protect the sovereign integrity of Ethiopia, by modernizing its armed forces ,( the Air Force, the Navy, the Army) as well as the police force. Under the Emperor’s reign soldiers had never been ordered to shoot and kill students and civilians alike in cold blood as we saw in recent years. Under the Emperor many schools were built around the country, and the quality of a given education in all provinces were compatible. A transfer student from other provinces can enroll in any schools in Addis Ababa can easily manage the courses without difficulty. But to day no way under this clear blue sky a transfer student from remote part of Ethiopia can compete with students in Addis Ababa or Mekele.
The Emperor was a great believer in Education. He opened boarding schools in and around Addis Ababa so students from all walks of life, be it from the north, south, east or western part of the country can come together and learn and assimilate with one another. Having seen English and French were very important subjects , he hired foreign teachers from English and french speaking countries to teach Ethiopian students from elementary to college level. By the way can this person named Sheger tell me if English or French languages are being taught in Ethiopian schools these days beginning at the elementary level. I don’t think so. Does he know that the Ethiopian educational system was under intensive care unit when the Emperor was overthrown, and dead now for good under the current regime.
when the Emperor ruled over Ethiopia the best and the brightest students were selected from all walks of life and given scholarship opportunities to go to school overseas. But these days who actually go overseas for education. Not the best and the brightest any more, but spoiled brats , who do not even know to distinguish between later and letter when writing an essay. They are only being sent because their parents inherited huge sums of money by robbing, killing, begging, and diverging more money from its originally intended use .

I do not think Sheger really knows what he is talking about, regarding Emperor Haile Selassie. I can tell you what he did very briefly. The Emperor was a visionary leadership who believed the coexistence of Ethiopians who came from all walks of life A man who put Ethiopia above everything else. A man who worked hard to protect the sovereign integrity of Ethiopia, by modernizing its armed forces ,( the Air Force, the Navy, the Army) as well as the police force. Under the Emperor’s reign soldiers had never been ordered to shoot and kill students and civilians alike in cold blood as we saw in recent years. Under the Emperor many schools were built around the country, and the quality of a given education in all provinces were compatible. A transfer student from other provinces can enroll in any schools in Addis Ababa can easily manage the courses without difficulty. But to day no way under this clear blue sky a transfer student from remote part of Ethiopia can compete with students in Addis Ababa or Mekele.
The Emperor was a great believer in Education. He opened boarding schools in and around Addis Ababa so students from all walks of life, be it from the north, south, east or western part of the country can come together and learn and assimilate with one another. Having seen English and French were very important subjects , he hired foreign teachers from English and french speaking countries to teach Ethiopian students from elementary to college level. By the way can this person named Sheger tell me if English or French languages are being taught in Ethiopian schools these days beginning at the elementary level. I don’t think so. Does he know that the Ethiopian educational system was under intensive care unit when the Emperor was overthrown, and dead now for good under the current regime.

Yes, If our comparism is from three messers, So Haileselasie was better than all other odds. But if we compare from all ethiopians who had served and defended his country, we have so more internationally well known hereoes like Colonel Abdiss Aga. Read his biography from one of above posted my comments. Let us not be biased one. what is our ceretierias to give credite? What about atse menilik who defeated the foreign invaders and told the whole black people that you can fight against your colonizers and win and get your freedom? Guys haileselasie was on power over 48 years. he was the first african’s leader who stayed on power longer time and it was relatively peacefull time to build ethiopia.Atse menilik built schools, hotel, tel, rail way and he made the farmers from paying taxes for those who sent their children to school and he charged more taxes for those who refused to send their children. you see how he addressed the use of education and the way he pushed the people to send their children to school?

Bereket,No body denied that haileselasie did not do any thing for our ppl and country.But my point is he could do more because he stayed on power over 48 years, there was relatively peace and ethiopiawinet had high momentum after adwa war. And you should know that his regime how treated the poor ethiopian’s farmers. And more over derg and TPLF is the direct result of haileselasie’s repressive regime. If he could transform power to the new generation, derg could not come to menelik’s palace and TPLF could not follow derg.
