We heard the disturbing, though not unexpected, news that a thug of EPRDF cadres disrupted UDJ’S town hall meeting and even physically assaulted leaders of the opposition. We strongly believe that this act of hooliganism is directed and coordinated by security forces of Meles Zenawi. It is not an isolated incident, either, as it is part of the age old strategy the cadre state of Meles Zenawi has put it in place and practiced for long to annihilate any popular opposition.

Obviously, it is a continuation of the intimidation tactic it has been using all along and aimed against democratic forces determined to objectively expose disastrous political, economic and social policies. The illegal imprisonment of the popular leader, Birtukan Medekssa and other political opponents are cases in point for our people’s suffering in the hands of this vindictive political system. Secretly planting cadres to create disharmony and split within independent opposition groups, closing down opposition offices, and harassing, arresting officers and supporters, engaging in an all out abusive propaganda work to discredit real oppositions are the coordinated works of the EPRDF and its very loyal security forces.

The support offices of Unity for Democracy and Justice (UDJ) in North America strongly condemn the recent EPRDF sponsored attack on opposition leaders and town hall meeting participants of the City of Adama. Furthermore, we strongly urge the government of Meles Zenawi to immediately stop those acts of intimidation, harassment, arrest and extra judicial killing of opposition leaders and supporters. In the best interest of all Ethiopians, we appeal to all the international communities to denounce the EPRDF government of its attempt to play the ethnic and religious cards to further its political agenda of destabilizing Ethiopia.

We are confident UDJ and all democratic forces will emerge victorious and secure the freedom of the popular leader Ms. Bertukan Medekssa. All Ethiopians are behind the struggle as, such it is the only option to guarantee viable economic and social development for citizens irrespective of ones religious or ethnic background.

Finally, we would like to express our solidarity to leaders of UDJ and other democratic forces for standing firm against dictatorship. We assure you that we will continue our concerted struggle until the realization of our age old dream of justice, equality, peace and democracy.

What are UDJP’s strategies in achieving, “We assure you that we will continue our concerted struggle until the realization of our age old dream of justice, equality, peace and democracy”. How do these objectives compare to a peaceful struggle for unity of Ethiopia, freedom of all Ethiopians, territorial integrity and sovereignity of Ethiopia. What do the titles UDJP and AEUP signify in terms of national goals for unity of Ethiopia in terms of agenda for ethnicism and seccessionism. The term unity is used for justice and democracy in UDJP implies, accepting the status quo, i.e no change but durable democracy and perhaps justice in a peaceful struggle, with no defined/apparent strategies to achieve it, other than to form a coalition of like minded politicians with ethnic agenda, against a TPLF/eprdf political model, which is multi-layered and hierarchical in its attributes, bringing about economic and political crises in Ethiopia.

Deductivly, if the premise is worong so is is the conclusion. Inductively, if there is no well defined national objectives as that of AEUP, with well defined strategies such as the 7-point preconditions and urging the passage of HR2003/S3457 to reset the foreign policy agenda of USA, you are going nowhere reciting the vague objectives of justice, equality, peace and democracy as opposed to unity of Ethiopia, freedom of all Ethiopians, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ethiopia as your main goals, even though you may have a differnt party for different reasons.
