The 2009 Boston Marathon champions, Deriba Merga of Ethiopia and Salina Kosgei of Kenya, are scheduled to try to defend their titles April 19. Merga will be challenged in the men’s field by Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot of Kenya, the runner-up last year, who has won four times and holds the course record. Kosgei will face Dire Tune of Ethiopia, whom she edged by a second last year in the women’s race. (more…)

¶Meb Keflezighi, who last November became the first American to win the New York City Marathon since 1982, will return to Manhattan to compete in the New York City Half-Marathon on March 21. Keflezighi ran the inaugural NYC Half-Marathon in 2006, when it was held in the summer. The field also includes the marathon world record-holder, Haile Gebrselassie.
