On July 18, 2007, HR 2003, “Ethiopia Democracy and Accountability Act of 2007”, authored by Congressman Donald Payne (D-NJ), unanimously passed the Subcommittee on Africa and is forwarded to the Foreign Affairs Committee.

A truly bipartisan bill (all members of the Subcommittee on Africa voted for the bill, 7 Democrats and 6 Republicans), H.R. 2003, is expected to be presented to the entire Foreign Affairs Committee for a vote before Congress recesses for the summer in early August, 2007.
The unanimous vote for the “Ethiopia Democracy and Accountability Act of 2007″ by the Subcommittee on Africa is widely believed to be yet another indication that the United States government is adapting the views of the European Union on the Zenawi regime:

  1. - An accurate understanding of the massive, and systematic crackdown on dissent,
  2. - The worsening repression and gross infringement of human rights and
  3. - The critical situation of the hundreds of thousands of prisoner of conscious including the opposition leaders who remain in arbitrary detention

On my behalf and Ethiopians oppressed by Prime Minister Meles and his oligarchy, please thank the Foreign Affairs Committee.
Those Ethiopians and Ethiopian friends living under the shelter of democratic governments, let us put together our brain power, determination, dedication, and effort until HR 2003 is signed into Law by President George W. Bush. We have to remain vigilant or else we shall be disappointed if history repeats with regard to HR 2003 too.

Have no dobut. God is always with Ethiopia. All that is required of us is faith in Fod. Faith of the type that our forefathers have had. There will come a time when the tyrannts will regret for their unspeakable deeds. It will not be too long to see Ethiopia enjoying the real Democracy and Freedom. Ethiopians now know who their real friends and enemies are. It will be led by those who care for its national interests as do the supporters of the tyrannt regime of Meles for their country.
