Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Meles Zenawi issued a blunt warning to opposition groups he says are trying to organize a people’s revolution. Mr. Meles on Tuesday accused the largest opposition coalition of serving as a cover for an outlawed rebel group.

In a nationally televised session of parliament, Mr. Meles had harsh words for the domestic opposition and for external forces he said are trying to destabilize Ethiopia. He served notice that his government would not tolerate anyone plotting demonstrations or terrorist attacks.

The legislative session had been called to hear the government’s six-month progress report. But when the only opposition lawmaker in the 547-seat legislature asked why supporters of the Medrek coalition are being arrested in the Oromia region, Mr. Meles responded that those in custody are suspected of being members of the outlawed Oromo Liberation Front.

Speaking in Amharic, Mr. Meles suggested that his government is aware of attempts to incite a people’s revolution. He blamed Medrek and its main component, the Unity and Justice for Democracy Party.

He said, “I would like to pass a message to Medrek, and particularly members of [the] Unity [for Justice and Democracy Party].

The Ethiopian leader said his government is not blind and deaf, and warned that anyone who takes part in what he called “the plot being hatched to incite protests and terror” would “pay a price.”

Mr. Meles gave no details about what the plot might entails. But a campaign on the social networking website Facebook is calling for massive protests next month on the 20th anniversary of the day Mr. Meles’s Tigrayan People’s Revolutionary Front came to power.

Former Ethiopian President Negasso Gidada, who is chairman of the Unity for Democracy and Justice Party, denied any opposition involvement in planning the demonstration. In a telephone interview, he accused Mr. Meles of trying to suppress public protests by intimidating and demonizing the opposition as well as Ethiopia’s neighbors.

“We have not been involved in any kind of plot or in any kind of inciting protests and terror at any time, whether it is last week or this week or in the future – particularly not to incite terror. What he is saying does not apply to us, and it is only for us a threat to have it as a reason to prepare himself and his government to take illegal action against opposition party members,” he said.

In his remarks to lawmakers, Mr. Meles accused two other countries in the region of trying to foment instability. He charged neighboring Eritrea with backing the Oromo Liberation Front, and he vowed to reciprocate by supporting rebels trying to overthrow Eritrean President Isaias Afewerki.

The Ethiopian leader also said he is not concerned about Egypt’s attempt to block funding for a massive dam to be built on the Nile River. Mr. Meles vowed last week that the $4.8-billion hydropower project would go ahead as planned, even though no international donor has agreed to provide financing.

The woyane started their anti-Ethiopian hate campaign and killing spree by inciting one ethnic group against the other, back in 1991 when they first marched to Addis Abeba from Dedebit. At that time the Amhara were the main targets of the woyane. After so much massacre, they have now shifted their focus on the Oromo.

Literally, there is no ethnic group now that has not been affected by the ethno-fascist woyane junta. The trend follows similar patterns all the time. First the woyane would set up an ethnicist organisatuon in their own image (OPDO, OMMO, ANDM, SELO, GMMO,ARDO, YGUO etc). when that group has served the objectives of the woyane all the members of that group are targeted under a crime the woyane create (e.g corruption, terrorism etc). This is how the woyane have been operating since day 1.

The sad thing is there are still people who are willing to lick the boots of the woyane and to do their dirty work of divide and rule the people.

It is no surprise that the OPDO, OPC ( long time serevants of the woyane are targeted for persecution). People have to wake up and stop being used as pawns of the woyane. No one in Ethiopia is free until all the people of Ethiopia are free.

Wake up you people serving the woyane, your time is short with the woyane, you are only being used as serevants.

The TPLF/eprdf regime is holding hostage the teletafi parties to their adherance and support of ethnic and secessionist politics and or policies inscribed in the constitution Article 39 (1) and the imbalance created among the three branches of the government pertaining to Article 50, add to that lack of economic and political freedom and liberty of individuals to supercede ethnic rights, ethnic federalism and secessionist rights. Ethnic rights and secessionist rights, ethnic fedreralism are supported by the the teltafi parties, directly andindirctly by the loyalist opposition parties, now called the coalition Medrek/fdre with ethnic based agenda and UDJP of prodemocracy movenent with the subset of the agenda for unity, territorial integrity, sovereignity of Ethiopia and Ethiopians on the opposite side to TPLF/eprsf regime and divergent with Medrek/fdre on the baes of ethnic agenda versus national agenda as their basic platform and the liberation movements geared to secession upto self determination. It there to upold ethnic and secessionist politics and/or policies and to maintain the system of exploitation and political annd economic strangle hold of the counry’s resources, to deter charges for human right violations, and to maintain the secession and self-determination of Eritrea and create a skirmishes for war with the liberation movements and now posing to depose the Eritrean Leader and to incite Medrek/fdre, a mirror image of TPLF/eprdf regime inciting popular uprising does not speak to restoring Ethiopian Nationalism and Ethiopian National Interests, nor to bringing Eritrea to family of the original provinces to form state federalism of the original provinces.

If the Non-violent reaction/uprising to freedom does not address the core issues to restore individual freedom of all sorts with private ownership of land propreties anywhere in Ethiopia, as one of the means of production in a capitalistic society, to bring about changes in the constitution with respect to ethnic federalism and seccesionism and create a democratic government with independent branches of government, restore the original provinces as federated states in order to restore Ethiopian Nationalism and Ethiopian one does not have a country with one flag, one country, one language for communication and learnig, while developing the languages and cultures of individual ethnic groups with ethnic populations coexisting much like species populations of animals and plants governed by the natural and made laws, while developing the country along ecological zones not ethnic boundries.

Neither the threat posed to Mederek and Eritrea by the Prime Minister address these issues, nor the political platoform of the prodemocracy movement and/or Medrek/fdre, with exception of the movement initiated Global Civic Movement calling for popular uprising and EPRP and others with national agenda address the issues stipulated above wholly or partially inorder to free the individuals from autocratic, ethnocratic/ethnic dictatorship, ethnic fedreralism and secesionism as well as totalitarianism maintained from the Dergue regime and free the individuals from the exploitation and political and economic strangle hold by TPLF and TPLF affiliated enterprises.

One shuld not loose sight that the current regime is there to uphold the constitution and the imbalance of power in the constitution vested in TPLF and individuals in that politbeurro and their affiliates to exploit and have a political and economic and political strangle of the country’s resources and the silent majority of Ethiopians by TPLF and TPLF affiliated enterprises with their own style of economic development before democracy with out individual rights of the silent majority of Ethiopian and deter charges for human right violations and prevent a condition for fair and free election.

To my understanding both the teletafi parties are implicated in core issues of of ethnic and seccessionist politics and or policies inculcated by TPLF and EPLF rght from the student movements of oppression of nations and nationalities with Marxist element as part of the movent as a lingering element of totalitarianism in the the current regime on top of human right violations.

What is your argument here? Are other people having the same problem deciphering Aha’s message? If I understand correctly, your agenda is the restoration of the old order with a “democratic” cover. It appears that you are knocking on the door of the TPLF to be the next teletafi, because you do not agree with any of the current opposition groups. The question to ask is how many of you are out there? I can understand that there are few who migrated to the west in the early years of Ethiopioan uprising in the 1970′s. Most of these people are still hoping that the old order will come back. As a person who lived in the turmoils of the last decades, I can assure you that you are on the very fringe end of the spectrum of Ethiopian society. It is OK for you to remind us of your existence so that our complascense is checked against the reality.

Who are these foolish people who give Meles a rendezvous for Ginbot 20? are they for real or are they witting and unwitting Weyane collaborators? People should not be fooled. The protest must be organized in secrecy and not by Facebook mongers (how many access it in Ethiopia where web sites and internet is blocked?). Asmara is also no solution. It meddles and sabotages Ethiopian revolution always. Wake up folks!

This is my response to an oblivious diaspora element who may be incriminated with the current regime, or seeking the lesser of the two evills that of the mirror image of TPLF/eprdf with ethnic agenda, along with prodemocracy movements with the subset of agenda for unity, territorial integrity, sovereignity of Ethiopia and Ethiopians, instead of the national agenda. If this restoration of the old order, other than bringing back the Dergue or the Dergue regime, so be it. So be it, but I am not vouching for the new order or constitutional frame work established in the constitutiobn for new Ethiopia of ethnic and seccesionist politics and or policies as my major contention as indicated in the articles sighted above. But stop your one line argument by labeling a commentator directed to the author of the article as being your own, and sidetracking and labling an individual as either Amhara or Dergue supporter, where even Dergue regime has good attiributes of engaging for of Ethiopian Unity and Territorial integrity against TPLF and EPLF, except for its human rights vilolations. Even if you are a liberation movement supporter, hoping to benefit from those factions, which adopted the “enemy of your enenemy is your friend”, when it comes to exTPLFites, your are with the wrong crowed, when it comes to an uprising for freedom to restore Ethiopian Nationalism and Ethiopian Interests. You can not achieve those agenda on one hand and democracy instead of freedom on the other hand to dismatle ethnic and secessionist polotics and or policies from Ethiopia first and foremost, then everything else false in place. If that is restoring 3000 plus Ethiopia with pure democracy to replace the 20 year old eprdf with Medrek/fdre or OLF supporting the ethnic federalism and secessionism, please elaborate.
Otherwise leave that question answered by the politicians, who put you in that supporting position.

The role of the Internet including social networking sites in organizing peaceful demonstrations next May in Ethiopia should not be underestimated as it has proved effective in Egypt quite recently.
