TPLF ethno-centric dictatorial rule violated Ethiopians people rights with impunity, plundered the national resources. The power of the gun, deception, divide and rule, is the regime’s survival skill. TPLF’s army and secret service are well equipped to silence opposition and to commit ethnic cleansing. The vicious troops (Agaize) machine gunned many more defenseless innocent people for expressing their rights. No one held accountable for this dreadful atrocities to date. The ethnic cleansing that fostered by TPLF would monumental challenge that need be solved by future Peoples Government.

Several attempts was made to create ethnic animosities and distrust, but have not resonated to ordinary people. The associated political parties seem to offer no political treat to TPLF regime, they simply serving the interest of TPLF ethno-centric dictatorial rule. They are de facto agents in facilitating information gathering, and implementing at TPLF’s will the exploitation to continue. They do everything to maintain their flow of crumbs and gurash to remain uninterrupted. The large scale corruption also opened up a new military class. It is an open secret the TPLF’s military Generals are running wild and succumbed to corruption and getting easy money, and purchasing expensive villas in foreign capitals through relative’s names. The political cronies do the same and corruption become norm nowadays and cannot be deterred. Manipulation judicial institutions also the most brazen form of getting rich. The clerk and judges accept bribes in broad day light from plaintiffs or defendants. Any extortion appeals from ordinary citizen ignored or caused them to be thrown in jails.

The absence of democratic rights, and economic inequalities, massive corruption etc. creates discontent eventually will lead to all out uprising. Our forefathers fought and won freedom in the past, and took great personal risks to keep us free from foreign aggression. We are now fighting to free ourselves from different type of enemy (ethno-centric rulers) that has no respect for past history and attempt to kill a sense of nation hood of the people. This new enemy primary is driven in creating non-viable ethnic states and provoking ethnic conflicts. They pursued divide and rule policy to perpetuate undemocratic rule and disguise their large scale corruption to continue. The corruption is flourishing mainly through endowments enterprises such as EFFORT and GUNA. It is evident that most of the corruptions are concentrated in critical sectors, such as infrastructure projects, farm land lease, and government procurement, to name a few. In the absence of competitive political process and free press, theft, kickbacks, and briberies will have no end. There is almost no law to enforce since laws are written to support the regime party and corrupt cronies. Since misappropriation and embezzlement done as virtual mafia states how much the country wealth stolen will never be known.

It is clear that the stolen money can be used to lift people out of poverty, to create jobs, to stop plight of young generation to Middle East countries, enrich social program and many more. Ethiopia indeed could be easily listed of the top of Kleptocrats in the world. As we all remember in 2010, in an attempt to legitimize its dictatorial rule, the regime organized a parliamentary election that made it next to impossible for opposition parties to mobilize their supports. At the end, Meles boasted and declared he won parliamentary seats with 99.6%. But it is a well known fact it is done with his iron-fisted rule, not with democratic process. On other hand, I would say a major uprising appeared to be imminent as long as one party with an iron grip continues to rule.

Meles’s dark legacy resembles with many world dictators. As example I simply equate Meles to late Chilean dictator Pinochet. Pinochet was supported by western governments for advancing “free market policies”, “privatizing state owned industries”, “economic growth”, etc.by ignoring all his human rights violations. But by the time his rule end , Pinochet was humiliated, charges relating to widespread human rights violations, killings and disappearances, personal corruption and many more other crimes. Meles is also the head of TPLF ethno-centric dictatorial rule, known as a notorious symbol of human rights abuse, the architect of ethnic cleansing, and corruption. He quashed 2005 free election, which were marred by indiscriminate killing and thousands of the opposition group and sympathizers were jailed and brutally interrogated. Mele’s also claims economic growth similar to Pinochet rule. It is no secret Ethiopia is the largest aid recipient in Sub-Saharan Africa and one of the four largest recipients (3 billion per year), millions of dollars are pouring to the country through remittances by Diaspora. The majority citizen living style and income no better off today than previous Ethiopian rulers. Given this well-known fact and adding the Illicit outflow money at a massive scale, nobody trusts Meles’s double digits growth statistics, which are manipulated. We are certain he will have the same fate as Chilean dictator, history repeats itself, as say but prolonging Ethiopia’s agony in every aspect is our present concern.

It is sad to see TPLF ethno-centric dictatorial rule taking the country backward at alarming speed. We know that life is neither easy nor equal. But we cannot afford to remain as onlookers where ethnic cleansing encouraged by regime, where competitive political process non-existence, society freedom curtailed, and where regime makes corruption a way of life. We also knew that when too much power vests in one person or a few the results are tragedies. The opposition parties and the activists must redouble the effort to help the grassroots movement and to spark a social uprising for regime change. One thing is certain, the oppressed people’s force that never anticipated would join as activists advances people causes as seen recently in Tunisia, Egypt or other places.

The hunger tragedy followed by the mass uprising of Ethiopian students, teachers, workers , and taxi drivers brought down the 44 year old rule of Hailesellasie’s monarchy causing the ascent of Military Derg to the power. Seventeen years of dictatorship marred with indiscriminate mass killings and unbelievable bloodshed with no concern for human life ended with the head of the Derg, notorious Mengistu Hailemariam, fleeing the country to save his worthless ass. All the bravado Mengistu used to exude was resonating like a noise in a hollow. Mengistu never had the bravery and courage to face the music of his atrocity. Now we are in the twenty second year of tribal based governance of the foul-mouthed, with no respect to humanity, despot called Meles Zenawi. He relies on his paid assassins to look brave, as Mengistu did. Mengistu was a coward, and Meles Zenawi is also a coward dictator. Meles Zenawi should be ashamed of his criminalization of Mengistu’s regime because he is absolutely committing despicable crimes on Ethiopians what notorious Mengistu committed. It seems that Meles inherited the play book of Mengistu. There is one big difference between Mengistu and Meles Zenawi which puts Mengistu to be pure Ethiopian nationalist. Mengistu never questioned the national integrity of Ethiopia, and the Unity of its peoples. He aspired and defended the ONENESS of our country. Meles Zenawi seems to be infected with hatred of Ethiopia as one sovereign nation. His tribal based divide and rule system of government is intended to evade and eradicate Ethiopianization. Until he recognizes and admits that this tribal based form of governance has not brought the intended Unity of the nation as one, and comes forward in front of the Ethiopian people and reverses the tribal divide and rule system, we should not rest fighting this illegitimate, undemocratic, tyrannic, corrupt, inhumane, demonic, mengistuesque leader. What the EPRDF leaders and supporters forget is that what goes around comes around. What goes up, comes down. How dumb and stupid can these dictators be? Meles Zenawi should have learned from the fate of Saddam, Gadaffi, Mubarak of Egypt, the President of Tunisia, and other unpopular dictators in the past and recent years around the globe. Meles should not go far away to get that lesson. He is sitting in the Palace where his predecessors governed Ethiopia from, and were dethroned unceremoniously. Meles can learn from the fate of Haile Selassie and Mengistu, his predecessors, in our own country, Ethiopia. He is allowing his cronies, friends, and family members to enrich themselves through looting the country’s aid money instead of feeding the people. How on earth in Ethiopia where the economical growth is at infantile stage, where Ethiopia is third from last on per capita income on the global economical index, exist multimillionaires with assets stashed in foreign countries? How on earth individuals like owner of Sunshine Construction be able to build a 5 million dollars home in Addis Ababa? How on earth this man can make millions of dollars to build a home in Virginia, USA? How on earth TPLF-EPRDF controlled enterprises could own assets estimated in billions Birr? Where did they get the start-up money? All the money is stolen from the throat of starving Ethiopians. Meles knows this, and he has his fingerprints all over the stolen money. So it is up to us,Ethiopians in Diaspora who live and enjoy democracy and personal freedom, to organize and to fight day in day out in different avenues this national menace imposed on Ethiopia and Ethiopians.

Ethiopian from MN, you took the words out of my mouth. You’re absolutely right, my friend! It obvious Meles has been exercising absolute control of Ethiopia by waving his hot fiery iron fist with human blood dripping from it and using his well trained killing machine Agazi Army for the last 20 years. After 20 years of corruption, awful heart wrenching crimes, looting and killings Ethiopians have experienced and witnessed, it is evident that Meles does not have the capacity to care for another human being, a sense of kindness and conscience to understand the scale of corruptions, agony and crimes he has been committing on innocent Ethiopians. Expecting kindness or some kind of remorse to come from Meles is like expecting blood to come out of gomen or turnips. The only way to get rid off this heartless Hitler kind of subhuman is, the unity of all ethnic Ethiopians and rejecting him as a leader, boycotting his and his buddies businesses and all Ethiopians to demand more than what they are getting and refused to be mistreated by Meles and his thugs and standing up for their rights and to demand real democracy! Meles cannot kill the power of 87 million Ethiopians, the question is, how can the 87 million Ethiopians get their power back and reject the TPLF regime that is robbing, selling Ethiopia’s land, selling Ethiopian girls as slaves, selling small children for profit, throwing innocent Ethiopians in prison, torturing and killing Ethiopians! The unity of Ethiopians is very crucial, and every ethnic group need to come together as one and get rid off the heartles Meles and his thugs and his criminal mafia group who are looting the country and gunning down innocent Ethiopians that refuse to join the criminal TPLF mafia club. If Ethiopians unite and speak in one voice, I believe, can achieve to get rid off the killers of our fellow Ethiopians and our beloved motherland Ethiopia!

Yes Woyane is a national liberation movement of Tigrai; it was wrong they facilitated the country’s split to come to power. They were not given the mandate to do that. Some have already admitted that.

On the other hand, Meles has shown continuous progress toward the center. The country today is recognized as the region’s stabilizer and power house, his love for country’s sovereignty and Ethiopian Renaissance is shown not only by symbols like the Millennium Dam and fighting tooth and nail to keep African Union in Addis but, also playing a greater role in opening the way for a regional integration.

You can’t change a horse in the middle of a race. TPLF is the party that brought him to power, the region is also where he came from and his constituency has to be taken care of. As they are Ethipians investment in Tigrai won’t hurt country anyway. His party as long it exists will work in improving their region to get support. However, I see him as person with a vision beyond that; to work on issues of of development beyond Ethiopia, the region and the rest of Africa.

This is what he said the other day:

“..the so-called Washington Consensus that aimed to liberalize the economies of developing countries had demonstrably failed and the Chinese were now picking up the pieces.”

“Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi insists China is now coming to the rescue of Africa after a failed Western ideology of the past three decades has let the continent down.”

So he is definitely not a Pinochet.

[[..How on earth individuals like owner of Sunshine Construction be able to build a 5 million dollars home in Addis Ababa? How on earth this man can make millions of dollars to build a home in Virginia, USA?..]]

I have read Meles has shamed this man in a business meeting.

If you don’t know, Developmental State is Capitalism & it is built by capitalists like Sunshine. I don’t think it is your business to question how big a house the man builds in his country; in Virginia is a different matter. Where did he get the foreign currency is a good question. Meles as a leader has to shame, punish and what have you to tame the capitalist animals to do country development not just personal gains as you pointed out and he is doing exactly that.

Ethiopians , I believe value their economic and political freedom more than democratic rights. It is not not the animosity created among the ethnic groups by the government that has the damaging effect on the society as a whole, which they have overcome and live harmoneously together after a period of disturbances, bu the damaging effect on the unity, territorial integrity, sovereignity of Ethiopia and Ethiopians lies in the three ideologies of ethnic federalism, secessionism and totaliarinism supported by the teletafi (ethnic federalist) and the loyalist (ethnic federalist) opposition parties which directly and indirectly support a government with the the three ideologies based on ethnic agenda rather a national agenda, stipulated above.

The key to allowing political and economic and political freedom lies in the hands of the political parties aligned with ethnic agenda, once these parties aligned themselves with those with the national agenda for unity, territorial integrity, sovereignity of Ethiopia and Ethiopians, in which the last item refers to individual freedom, liberty and equality to have precedence over ethnic and secessionist rights and Ethiopiawinet has precedence over ones ethnicity, leaving the TPLF Polit Buerro and those inclined to ethnic rule no ground to stand on in order to save Ethiopia from disintegration to restore individual freedom, Ethiopian nationalism, Ethiopian National Interests and the sovereignity of Ethiopia, the silent majority of Ethiopians have maintained their sanity and integrity, but the elites that abide by ethnic federalism, secessionism and totaliarinism creating the disturbance in the society, and shout for democracy with ethnocracy under their sleeves. It is just like eating your cake and have it too.

No political and business organization nor scientific problems are solved without a common agenda with strategies/methods and that common agenda is not to remove one man, leaving ethnic federalism, secessionism and totaliarinism intact and calling on the silent majority of Ethiopians not to have animosity among ethnic groups as the major issue, rather than attacking the constitutional framework with TPLF as the architect and the other parties (teletafi and loyalist) parities supporting it and UDJP collaborating with them, and Ginbot 7 forming an alliance rather than a merger with with ethnic secessionist movements.

Ethiopian from Minnesota ! is right, if you put the current regime and its mirror images with in the context of the frame work of the constitution of ethnic federalism, secessionism and totaliarinism as hinderance to individual freedom, liberty and equality, denying the silent majority of Ethiopians a “shared ownership of the country” as Ephrem Madebo puts it, and ethnic cleansing the Amhara ethnic group from a killil mengistat/ethnic zone.

”The power of the gun, deception, divide and rule, is the Tplf’s survival skill”. there you get it.

The TPLF have looted Ethiopian resources which belonged to the people to enrich themselves and transform themselves (from a rag tag mostly peasant dominated militia, bare footed and rags on their backs when they marched to Addis) to world class millionaires.

How is that possible , you may ask. Loot.

TPLF has no long tradation or culture to administer or live with non-Tigryans. They are narrow nationliest. Their stock and trade is to plunder and steal that does not belong to them. Worst of all TPLF has a festering resentment because of their geographical condations in their own country.Nor is there farmland or minerals . There is a slight probablity one can start Tecela (Mexican alchol)extracted from cactus. Otherwise, there is nothing. Nothing produces nothing. When the ex-dictator Mengistou Haile Mariam said when TPLF took over Mekele, “good bye and good riddance a province that can not afford to buy a piece of chalk…”. That pretty much said it! B I am trying to say whatever their make up is they have undying ethnic jealousy against Eritreans and the rest of Ethiopians. For instance, a Tigyan university graduate always looking for Eritreans wife! What doest that really show. I am tired of bashing Melese and his ill ilk, and I let others fill the commentary in an old fashion way.

    @selamta
Selamta, I imagine you to be a sensible individual who can stand up for the truth without being emotional. I also believe that you have the intellect to differentiate between good and bad, life and death, truth and lies, realism and idealism, political propaganda and reality, sincerity and insincerity.

You said, “Talk talk until kingdom come but no more crying my Ethiopia from afar come home and be part of the change or simply leave in exile with wishing you were here. Peace is what you need Minnesota not history lessons ,wake up from your dream man/woman”
It is true that we do not need anymore crying my Ethiopia from afar, but fight the unpopular blood shedding government with determination and courage, and bring the change which gives all Ethiopians equal rights to decide for themselves with their votes in ballot not forced by bullets. If you think that bullets bring change, you are on the opposing side of the Ethiopian peoples. If you think being part of the change is looting the aid money to enrich the few in power, their families, their cronies, and as AHA says “TELETAFIS”, I prefer MY EXILE than being part of nation destroying Crime by your highly supported and praised dictatorial government. It seems that our difference lies in our priorities. Yours seem to be Money focused, selling the country to the highest bidder, in fact in the current regime’s case the lowest bidder such as Chinese, Indians, Arabs, in the name of economical development, and my priority is DEMOCRACY – THE FORM OF GOVERNMENT IN WHICH THE SOVEREIGN POWER IS IN HANDS OF THE PEOPLE, AND EXERCISED BY THEM DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY; A DEMOCRATIC STATE; ANY GROUP IN WHICH ALL THE MEMBERS PARTICIPATE IN DECISION-MAKING; SOCIAL EQUALITY; Do you honestly think that your highly regarded regime in MENELIK PALACE fulfill this expressed meaning of democracy? I trust your intelligence and your intelligence forbids you not to engage in lies. You are welcomed to stand your ground and support the regime for whatever reason or reasons you formulate. But do not tell me that TPLF-EPRDF is democratic and stands for justice. The moment a regime jails, imprisons, tortures, kills, and murders its opponents, professionals, journalists, political activists for political reasons, it automatically degrades itself to dictatorship and autocracy. And you do not disagree on this notion. That is the difference between you inside the country helping the regime oppress and suppress the people, and my being in exile to wash off my hand from the blood of tyranny. Yes, you might say that I am coward running away to exile. Who said that I am full of bravery and courage. I love my life. I do not want to be part of a criminal enterprise in the name of progress and economical development unless I dream on how to snatch my share of looting aid money by being cohort of this despicable crime organization which has set up itself as legitimate government. No, NO, NO. I prefer to live in exile than being the cause and accomplice of the crime that put Ethiopians in the current predicament. I do not want to see the suffering of my people. Since I do not have the courage to face the atrocity of the tyrannic and despotic, I chose to be in exile and save my ass. It does not mean that I shut my mouth as if nothing is happening in my beloved country. I thank God for keeping me alive so that I can argue with you on the matter of truth and lies. I will tip off my hat to the regime when the country is able to feed its starving people with its self-sufficiency without food aid from outside. I will stand with you when Meles decrees that his policies have been disaster to the unity of the nation, that he does not believe in Bantu-ism of Ethiopia, that tribal politics is not working, that the economical progress he boasts about has been for very politically or tribally connected individuals, but not the masses of Ethiopia. When he contends to these unjust and inequitable realities that face Ethiopia, promises the long awaited reforms to the current situations to implement democracy at work, and apologizes for his inexcusable blunder comparing the ETHIOPIAN FLAG to piece of cloth or rag, then I will stand up with you in saluting TPLF-EPRDF as Ethiopian government.

You said, “Peace is what you need Minnesota not history lessons ,wake up from your dream man/woman” You are absolutely true that what I need is PEACE, and I have absolute PEACE regarding that I am not part of the oppressing, starving, detaining, and killing machine of Meles’s regime. I am free of the sin. In that regard I thank you for wishing me peace which I have. Brother/sister (not knowing your gender), I do not live in the dream world. I am always awake facing the reality of life thinking of and analyzing the events around my existence. Questioning and examining my ability to relate myself to the unfortunate people of my homeland consumes my real time, not in my dream. God has given us the capability of using our mind to the benefit of all not to succumb to satisfy only those in power. We have to put ourselves in the shoes of the voiceless and powerless, and become their voice and their power. That is not a dream. That is what sensible, full of humanity, rational, and honest human beings do in real life. The material ownership we struggle for does not bring real happiness to the soul when people around us suffering in their existence. What we see in Ethiopia is not a dream, and IT IS A REALITY that we all should think of.

Dawi said, “If you don’t know, Developmental State is Capitalism & it is built by capitalists like Sunshine. I don’t think it is your business to question how big a house the man builds in his country; in Virginia is a different matter.”

The point is not the system of economy. It is obvious that the owner of Sunshine Construction is capitalist who could enrich himself through the system of Capitalism. It seems that you know something about the process of making so much money in Twenty two years of the current regime by the owner of the mentioned construction company. It is my business to question anyone including this one and others in power who have enriched themselves on the pain of the Ethiopian Peoples. I have the right to doubt the legitimacy of their money. It is through the looting of aid money these capitalists have started their ascent to the capitalist stratosphere. I do not think that you deny this fact. It is with joint collaboration of the first family that this guy could make so much money to be able to afford his lavish life. Without the blessing of the head of the government it is doubtful that a person who had been working as a simple construction supervisor to become the owner of the most dominant construction company in Ethiopia. Without the participation of the most powerful individuals in current regime this construction company cannot become the dominant contractor of various governmental projects.

Dawi, let us not lie to each other. Meles can reprimand this guy because of his boisterous lifestyle, not because of the money he made. The way this Sunshine guy entertains might bother Meles because his fingerprints are on the “COOKIE JAR”, and he does not like what his money making machine operators showing off their ill-gained money while the majority of the Ethiopian people are wondering where the next meal will come from. Is that not true, Dawi? You agree with me about the Virginia Home of this crook, thief, blood sucker of the Ethiopian poor. He did not start from scratch. He was given the money by the first family to enrich them. I can understand the wealth of Al Moudi, but it is hard to swallow the notion that the current Ethiopian Multimillionaires worked hard to build their wealth. The TPLF enterprises, Mesfin Engineering, and others are built on the blood and death of Ethiopians. I consider these riches as blood suckers who do not have the bone of humility, empathy, and sympathy. So, Dawi, it is my business to question everything regarding the criminal actions of the TPLF-EPRDF regime and its accomplices perpetrated on Ethiopian people. It is my duty and obligation to raise doubt about their people hurting activities and make them accountable. Let them prove me wrong on my assumptions about their coordinated economical, political, and social injustice on Ethiopian nation.

I don’t have personal knowledge of the man but you went from making some assumptions to quickly jumping to conclusions calling the man a “crook”. I guess comparing oneself to mother Teresa, you for running away and any other capitalist can be called a “crook”. :-)

Making assumptions is a very dangerous thing. Be that as it my, wasn’t Al Amoudi offered/given, what Forbes magazine calls the “jack pot” (Ethio-Gold mine) by the “first family” to get him to “ascent to the capitalist stratosphere” of the Forbes World’s Billionaires list you talk about? You were able to understand and accept that but the nickel and dime of the Sunshine man (compared to Al Amoudi) is a different matter?

Sam-sung & others are made to be who they are by the Developmental State of Korea. A Developmental State Theoretician like Meles envisioning a similar State by using EFFORT and others just as in the South Korea is not a far-fetched assumption for me to make.

You all talk about Democracy but you don’t do the walking. You can talk the talk, but can you walk the walk? is what you should ask yourself. I think Meles is doing the walk.

Look – the transition that is taking place in Developmental States to Democracy as we speak. The “barefoot lawyer” Chen of China is staying home, American Embassy delivered him to the Chinese and may not go to exile after all. How do they get to that point?

If anything even if it is as Zeray called it “የማሌሊት የሰማየ ሰማያት ማና”, IMO, is the only idea that has some sense in that troubled land of ours today. I don’t know about tomorrow; G7/OLF+ with their inclusive beginning seem to hold some promise as an alternative.

    @Dawi

Dawi, it is not my intention to go and back forth with you. I sincerely respect your opinion regarding the achievements of your government though my judgement is 180 degree on the opposite side.
But I would like to touch couple of points for sake of creating understanding, not to retort.

You said, “I don’t have personal knowledge of the man but you went from making some assumptions to quickly jumping to conclusions calling the man a “crook”. I guess comparing oneself to mother Teresa, you for running away and any other capitalist can be called a “crook”. :-)” Dawi, I am not assuming. I concluded exactly how you felt. Spade is spade, not a spoon. What do you call a man/woman who amassed wealth by being part and parcel of undemocratic government that exercises subjugation of the Ethiopian people? Yes, you call him/her a CROOK, not Mother Teresa. I believe you that you have no personal knowledge of the man, and I ask you where do you think that he got so much money to expand his holdings? It is an open secret that he has partnership with Meles and Azeb Mesfin. Man, Sunshine guy was a simple construction supervisor. He does not come from family with old money to get the capital. The money came from the throats of starving Ethiopians. My running away does not have anything to do with calling a capitalist who benefited through economical, political, and social malice on Ethiopian people, a CROOK. I would have been the first Ethiopian to salute Meles if he had created fair and equal opportunity to all Ethiopians regardless of their political, social, economical, and tribal status, and affiliation. I will stand by him if he recognizes the mistakes done by his governance, releases political prisoners, allows freedom of speech, and freedom of press, and establishes DEMOCRACY without any limitations and restrictions. But that won’t happen. I am dreaming. You know that, and your heart is crying out to agree with me.

You said, “You were able to understand and accept that but the nickel and dime of the Sunshine man (compared to Al Amoudi) is a different matter?” The only difference here is that Al Amoudi came with some tangible capital from outside, and did not loot the Aid money like your “nickle and dime capitalists” from the starving people of Ethiopia for personal enrichment. Yes, he benefited from the disgraceful governance of Meles, and as businessman he came to profit.

You said, “A Developmental State Theoretician like Meles envisioning a similar State by using EFFORT and others just as in the South Korea is not a far-fetched assumption for me to make.” Though I don’t know Meles up close, he seems to be an intelligent and bright person. However his weakness is that he uses his intelligence for self-indulgence, oppression, and staying in power without the will of the Ethiopian people. Meles is envisioning how to govern Ethiopia till his becomes senile like Mugabe, and other crook and corrupt African Dictators who never say that I am too old to govern or my time is up and let me pass the baton democratically. Intelligence is a curse when it is used to oppress and suppress the large majority of the people rather than for the common good.

Dawi said, “You all talk about Democracy but you don’t do the walking. You can talk the talk, but can you walk the walk? is what you should ask yourself. I think Meles is doing the walk.” Dawi! Dawi! What kind of walk do you want me to walk regarding Democracy? Democracy is not a walking matter. It is part of your existence, intrinsic to you. It is your personal belief exuding love, kindness, justice, tenderness, and care to another human being and your environment surrounding your existence. It is extempore. You have it and feel it or you don’t. It is not something you put on leash and walk it around. Yes, Meles is doing the walk – THE MOONWALK. That is why he is who and what he is because he cannot see where he is walking to.

Let God soften Meles’s and Azeb’s heart so they can see what nightmare Ethiopians are in because of their governance. I hope that they will wake up one day and while they see and kiss their children, God will send the enlightenment to them to see the rest of the Ethiopian people as their children, to feel the pain of Ethiopians as the pain of their children, the imprisonment of the people under their watch as imprisonment of their children, and the cry of mothers and fathers whose children have been murdered under their watch to be the cry of their own parents and their own as parents of three children. I hope that they will ask themselves why they are ignoring the suffering of the Ethiopian people politically, economically, socially, and spiritually, rather than being sarcastic and tyrannic dictators.

Dawi, I enjoyed your virtual company and discussion. Peace to all of us, and a better day to Ethiopia.

[[.. Yes, Meles is doing the walk – THE MOONWALK.....]] :-)

Look my brother – Meles is at the helm of a country with inter-group inequalities where some folks are waging ethnic wars. The man came to power using one of such horses. He talked the talk and walked the walk to get where he is now. He is in a position to change things and has expressed what he wants to do in speech/writings. We have read that he received an Economics PHD on the subject matter.

That is why I assume and hope he is playing the historical role of a Developmental State Dictator.

As our inequality and social instability requires a centralization of decisions and given the crises we are in is a disaster, it requires quick decision making. In such a situation the diminishing of Liberties is acceptable and Democracy is as you dream/see, as in some religious phenomena where belief, love, tenderness in the air…in our case today IS NOT VIABLE. It is a luxury you are talking about.

Under the conditions our country is today economic development is promoted by a Dictatorship as in the Asian Tigers to be able to transform to the wonderful dream land you are dreaming about.

Bottom line, historic experience shows that richer more educated and more equal countries are more likely to be Democratic.

    Peace to you too!
