Police in Kansas are searching for Yelekal “Kal” Alemu, a 23-year-old University of Kansas alumnus who has been missing since last week.Alemu, of Lawrence, was last seen by friends and family on the morning of May 12. He was reported missing later that day when he failed to show up for an “important family gathering,” according to Sgt. Trent McKinley, of the Lawrence Police Department.

The same evening Alemu was reported missing, authorities found his vehicle abandoned on private property in rural Douglas County, southeast of Lawrence. Authorities said the vehicle was undamaged. Investigators have yet to comment on what, if anything, was found inside the vehicle.

Lawrence police said it is out of character for Alemu to be out of touch with friends and family.
Alemu is 5-foot-10 and weighs 170 pounds. He has short hair and a full beard. He was last seen wearing a striped grey shirt.

Anyone with information on Alemu’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Lawrence Police Department at 785-832-7509 or the Douglas County TIPS Hotline at 785-843-TIPS.

May the loving God be with Yelekal and found safe and sound! My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Yelekal as they go through the nightmares of not knowing the whereabouts of their precious son.

If he was against fascist Meles Zenawi, may be he is a victim of fascist Tigreans ethnic politics. Fascist Meles unlike his predecessor tyrant Mengistu ´with AK-47 but with various biological means, like AIDS, poisoning, denying medication and food. Say no to state terrorism in ETHIOPIA.

    #2 Koster,
I don’t know the political views of our young missing Ethiopian or his parents, but what you have said also crossed my mind. Knowing the horrific crimes the despicable Woyanes have committed on innocent Ethiopians for the last 22 years, being suspicious of them at all times is fair. I cannot even to start to imagine, the nightmare they are going through. My heart goes out to his parents, siblings, family members and friends. May God help them to find their precious son and give them the strength they need at this difficult time.

As a parent I feel the pain and understand what they are going through. May the Ethiopian community pray to the safety return of this young man and his beloved parents at this point. Amiin! Amiin! Amiin

Unless someone has his/her own child, no one understands that unconditional love means loving a child. I think in this case also, it is impossible to say I understand the extent of pain when another parent looses a child. We might thing we understand, but unless another parent have gone the same tragedy, I’m afraid it is impossible to understand the real hurt, pain and agony of loosing a child.
