Libyan Atrocity

The shameful and barbaric Libyans involved in atrocities as presented on video is a result of a long standing process. Countless number of innocent non-Arab Africans have been victimized (tortured and murdered) since the fall of the Libyan Berber brutal dictator Gadhafi. Unlike Saudis who seem for the nth time are getting ready to commit their atrocities against defenseless men, women, and children Ethiopian Immigrants living and working in Saudi Arabia, Egypt has officially condemned the atrocities committed by Libyan IS groups in no uncertain terms. We still have to hear from Issayas Afeworki, the “Eritrean” leader, although many ordinary people have expressed their disgust to the murder of Christian Ethiopians. Right now, the atrocities by Libyans in camouflage in the name of IS of murdering thirty Christian Ethiopians cries out for justice. What is the Ethiopian Government doing at this point to take care of the onslaught on Ethiopian immigrants in Arab countries, in South Africa, In Kenya, in Somalia, et cetera?

It is easy to shift the blame from the actual perpetrators of such savagery and brutality to the victims and ultimately to the Government of Ethiopia. In justice there cannot be any justification for such brutal murder. The victims are absolutely innocent, they have done nothing to deserve such brutal death. In case of the ISIS brutality the aim is to create chaos in the relatively peaceful Ethiopia by attacking Christian Ethiopians and murdering them in most horrific manner. They are hoping to create a retaliatory action by Christian Ethiopians against Muslim Ethiopians in Ethiopia. Those Libyan savages who committed such atrocities do not understand how deeply Ethiopian Christians and Ethiopian Muslims are connected, how far committed they are to the peaceful co-existence of all Ethiopians who follow different religions.

South Africa’s Brutality

The savagery and brutality of some South Africans against immigrants is a puzzle, for only yesterday those same Black South Africans were hosted in such neighboring countries fleeing the Apartheid system that had dehumanized them as persons. Apparently that dehumanization had far deeply deformed them completely to become monsters in attacking defenseless immigrants. The recent atrocity was triggered by a Zulu leader, King Goodwill Zwelithini, who referred to immigrants as “lies” and “ticks” that must be removed. “Let us pop our head lies. We must remove ticks and place them outside in the sun. We ask foreign nationals to pack their belongings and be sent back,” Zwelithini said on 20 March 2015 in a speech in Pongola in northern Kwa-Zulu Natal. [See Reuters, 20 March 2015] Even though Zwelithini later recanted his statements, he should be arrested and tried in the International Criminal Court for crime against humanity for inciting a fringe of a population in South Africa to attack identifiable groups in violation of the Genocide Convention.

The economic problem in South Africa is quite complex. Local small business owners, Boers, Indians and Jewish minority South Africans might be also behind all that anti-immigrant movement trying to polarize the problems of uneven distribution of wealth inherited from the Apartheid system where the great wealth of South Africa is still mostly controlled by such minority groups. Of course, there are token Black South Africans who have become millionaires and even billionaire by being grafted to the existing corrupt system inherited from the Apartheid era of property ownership. Those who attacked individual immigrants are essentially stupid and cowardly, for instead of struggling through democratic elections against the minority group that is controlling the wealth of South Africa, who are the causes of the continued poverty of the Black South Africans, they attack defenseless poor immigrants who are in the main providing the poor South Africans with essential services from their little stores and vending stands.

Conclusion and Suggestions

The Ethiopian Government must foremost attend to the victims and the families of victims as its sacred duty and priority. With that as a priority I suggest the following:

1.It should crackdown on human traffickers and human smugglers with great zeal. It should appoint a truly patriotic Ethiopian to head such division of the Government.

2.The Ethiopian parliament must promulgate laws against such human trafficking and smuggling with the most severe punishment.

3.The Ethiopian Government must work closely with the governments of neighboring countries and other nations where Ethiopian immigrants are at risk.

4.Bring back every Ethiopian immigrant in any foreign country who wants to come back to Ethiopia by providing free transportation and financial help to start life back in Ethiopia.

5.Establish legal teams including foreign legal experts that will undertake to recover property of Ethiopian victims in foreign countries, and to bring legal and political action to fully compensate Ethiopian victims of mob, government planed atrocities, such as that of Saudi Arabia, Libya, South Africa et cetera from such respected Governments.

6.Get help and get connected with experienced groups, lawyers, and influential public personalities that had recovered billions of dollars for victims of Nazi Germany, for Iranian hostages et cetera.

7.Most importantly, the Ethiopian Government must work on a reconciliation program to bring in all dissenting groups into a solid national front. The first thing t do is to free all political prisoners that are in prison serving sentences for alleged crimes of association with Diaspora political dissent groups.

8.The Ethiopian government must free immediately Eskinder Nega, Reeyot Alemu, Woubshet Taye, Solomon Kebede, Andualem Arage et cetera without any precondition. It will be hypocrisy to be angry at foreign governments and their brutal citizens for committing atrocities on Ethiopian immigrants and yet treat one’s own citizens with contempt and atrocities imprisoning and torturing them here in Ethiopia.

9.Ethiopia is the target for Arabs for destruction. We must face fire with fire. We have a great history of independence and sovereignty. We have what it takes to be a great power and a great people. The first wisdom is to look at each other as the source and base for our survival. This is not the time to point fingers at each other whether Christian, Muslim, Northerner, Southerner et cetera. Ethiopia, our life boat is threatened by foreign destructive forces. Time for solidarity.

10. The Ethiopian Government must create a new international striking force, highly trained combatants with modern weapon systems. Weakness invites attack. In order to have peace, we must prepare and be ready for war.

My heart-felt condolences to all the innocent victims of brutality and savagery foremost in Libya and in South Africa supposedly a “Friendly” nation. Our tragedy, pain and suffering must unite us tighter than ever before. Long Live Ethiopia and All Ethiopians: God’s People and Nation.
