The inquiry commission set up by Meles has reached a verdict.
ADDIS ABABA|October 9/2006 - An inquiry commission set up by Meles Zenawi to investigate whether police had used excessive force to put down a nationwide protest found out that 193 civilians were murdered and six policemen killed during two major incident of social unrest in the country.
The commission has reached a conclusion that EPRDF forces had used excessive forces against peacefully protester and civilians. Meles Zenawi government tried to cover up this incident by putting pressure on the inquiry commission. This has let two key members of the Inquiry Commission – Federal Court judge Wolde-Michael Meshesha, who had served as a long-time loyalist of the Meles regime, and Supreme Court judge Firehiwot Samuel, fled the country to Germany.
