Ethiopian Wins Richmond Marathon

Asnake Asnake Fekadu of Ethiopia broke away in the opening mile and won the Richmond Marathon by more than seven minutes Saturday. Running unchallenged through most of the race, Fekadu finished in 2 hours, 20 minutes, and 23 seconds. The 26-year-old runner, who lives in Silver Spring, Md., won $2,500. Andrii Toptun of the Ukraine was second in 2:27.37.

Maureen Ackerly of Richmond won the women’s division, passing Russian Elvira Kolpakova of Derwood, Md., after the halfway point and winning in 2:53.14.
