The blast occurred at 1630GMT. Casualties are reported. There is no word so far on the cause.

In April, there were explosions at two petrol stations in the city. Ethiopia blamed them on Eritrean-backed militants – a charge denied by Eritrea.

Tensions between the two stem from Ethiopia’s failure to hand over the town of Badme, which a UN-backed commission awarded to Eritrea.
