June 2008 (Brussels) The European Union parliamentary hearing was held in Brussels yesterday on ever worsening political and human rights situation in Ethiopia, EMF source said. Dr. Berhanu Nega, Mayor-elect of Addis Ababa, and leader of G7 movement presented his well prepared report at the hearing.

European parliament’s committees of the Human rights, Development and ACP-EU representatives have attended the hearing. Representatives of the International crisis group and several Ethiopians have also attended the hearing. Meles Zenawi’s representatives didn’t dare to appear and face Dr. Berhanu. However, the Zenawi regime sent two from its multi-million paid lobby firm, DLA Piper to shamefully represent it.

“I am from lobby firm DLA Piper. I have a question to you and Ms Ana Gomes. Why don’t you fight the government in Ethiopia, like Professor Mesfin does, than from Diaspora?” Zenawi’s lobbyist Asked.

The presence of DLA Piper lobbyist at such hearing was very strange. “We have never seen you in any of our sessions before,” The UK Labor Party spokesperson and Co-President of the African, Caribbean and Pacific / EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly, Glenys Kinnock said the lobbyist. Glenys has also backed the recent Human Rights watch report that criticizes the EU executives to be silent on the crimes against Humanity being committed by Meles Zenawi regime.

“In Portugal, we also had the same brutal dictatorial regime as the Meles Zenawi’s,” Honorable Anna Gomes responded to the lobbyist. “We fought it both from inside and out side.” As a chief European observer mission, Ms. Anna witnessed once again that Kinijit leaders have won the elections. “Berhanu would have been in power. But the regime put him in jail.” Anna added.

“You were doing everything to kill HR 2003,” Dr. Berhanu responded to the lobbyist. “You earn money by defending a corrupt and criminal regime at the expense of the misery of millions of the Ethiopian poor.” He added. Berhau further elaborated the crimes of the regime until the lobbyist made an apology. “We don’t want to fight a regime with in the rule of the game created in favour of it. We don’t want to fight in a frame work of what the regime wants us to be.” Berhanu said.

It was then apparent that the DLA lobbyists were not in position to defend a corrupt and criminal regime. They seemed to have been very much embarrassed. They finally appreciated Dr. Berhanu for his commitment and made an apology.

A high level talk was also held on Tuesday, 25 June 2008 with top level EU executives. “He met with Javier SOLANA and Louis Michel office. It was an extremely high level talk,” source said. In the meetings, Berhanu warned the European Union about the looming danger because of their wrong foreign policy in the East Africa region.

Presentation before EU Parliamentary

Dr. Berhanu’s diplomatic initiative at the EU is very welcome. Given his good abilities he is one of those leaders of our movement who is particularly suited to carry out such an important task.
It is my view that such a crucial task, however, must not be a solitary mission. Best results can always be achieved in this and other endeavors if they are done collectively and in consultation with others. There is no alternative to MIKIKIR.The astute Emperor Menelik, for instance, was able to bequeath the heroic legacy of Adwa to us because he always knew that strength comes through unity and he consulted with the wise men and women around him to achieve his goals.

Like wise,Dr.Berhanu must and can work hand and glove with the many wise and experienced people around him. Leaving his differences aside, he should reach out particularly but not entirely to his former colleagues in KINJIT and work flat out for an early break of the ‘dawn of freedom’. My very best wishes!

Look my Ethiopian brother and sister you must understand one thing, Americans doesn’t care what kind government we have as long as their interest protected. Plus we are black people. Since when majority white cares about black African? American always stand for their interest then for their friend interest after that their friend friends interest E.T.C. at this time we (Ethiopians) are not their interest or friend except fascist meles zanawe. One thing i like about Americans they will stand with us if they see us real fighting fascist meles zanawe and have some progress. I am not talking about demonstration in front of white house when I say real fight. Other ways we will never see freedom in Ethiopia.

Dr Berhanu lived most of his life in America among westerners. After he came back home with loads of goods for AAU’s economics dptmt at sidist killo, he made an impression only ferejees used to make on us before.

It is sometimes good to miss Ethiopia. I believe YENETSANET GOH SIQED is a promise written in prison. And there are lots of Dr. Berhanu’s coming of age; innocents without baggages and determined to see the whole Ethiopia equally shares the future prosperity, freedom, justice and democracy.

We are Ethiopians after all and we don’t want an inch of territory to be given away or taken away from us secrectly or openly. The bones of our ancestors who died fighting for us are not less important than other ppl’s colonizers’ imaginations.

Dr Berhanu is understood by Ethiopians who always believed and still believe in the right of citizenship. Somebody needs to talk on behalf of Ethiopia’s nearly 80 million citizens more now than any other time.
