The European Parliament’s Development Committee is to meet UDJ Officials in Addis Ababa – October 31, 2008
The European Parliament’s Development Committee is sending a fact-finding mission to Addis Ababa to investigate issues related to food security and regional security. The fact-finding mission is said to prepare and present recommendations to the committee on the role of the EU in promoting sustainable development and good governance in the regional context.
The fact finding mission is a Three-Member delegation headed by Mr. Alain Hutchinson. It will be in Ethiopia on 31 October and 1 November. The committee has extended an invitation to UDJ for a meeting which shall take place on Saturday Nov. 1 at the Sheraton Hotel, Addis Ababa. Opposition party members that joined the parliament will also meet the group but in a different element of the delegations program. The mission is also scheduled to meet with Trade Unions and Officials of the ruling regime.
It is to be recalled that a high level British Executive threatened to withhold aid to Ethiopia after visiting the Eastern part of the country and holding a discussion with the Premium. Apparently, the Executive was not happy on the regimes handling of the food security issues in Ethiopia, specially in the Ogaden Region.
