Ethiopia said on Tuesday it was not prepared to continue propping up Somalia’s interim government “indefinitely” and urged leaders there to embrace a peace process to stop 17 years of conflict.

Somali President Abdullahi Yusuf’s government has been unable to stop a two-year insurgency by Islamic militia, despite backup from thousands of Ethiopian troops.

U.N.-brokered peace talks in Djibouti to end the war, which has created one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, have been rejected by Islamist hardliners, while a spat between Yusuf and his prime minister has further hindered the process.

“If they fail to grasp this historic opportunity, we cannot help them by taking the responsibility on their behalf,” Seyoum Mesfin, Ethiopian foreign minister, told a regional meeting.

“I would like to reiterate unequivocally that Ethiopian troops are not prepared to continue paying heavy responsibilities indefinitely… It is crucial to send the right message to Somali leaders at this critical time,” he told fellow foreign ministers from around the region.

The U.N. plan foresees the withdrawal of Ethiopian troops. Addis Ababa welcomes that and wants to pull out, but not if that leaves the government at the mercy of the Islamists.

During the meeting, Seyoum said Kenya had pledged to send a battalion of troops to boost an African Union (AU) peacekeeping force. There was no independent confirmation from Nairobi.

“Kenya’s decision is a great commitment,” Seyoum said at the end of a day-long meeting to discuss the Somalia crisis.

Some 3,000 peacekeepers from Uganda and Burundi are in the capital Mogadishu, short of the intended 8,000-strong AU mission.

    Concerning the situation in Somalia,
„The foreign minister of Ethiopia” said: “If they fail to grasp this historic opportunity, we cannot help them by taking the responsibility on their behalf,”

Our question for him should be:
First of all who gave you the mandate to forcefully occupy another country?
Ethiopians have shown their disagreement on the idea from the beginning and hence the country and the people are not responsible for the horrendous crime committed.
This act is against international law and those who forced the “parliament” to commit the crime should stand in HAGUE international criminal court!

    “The good minister” continued:
“I would like to reiterate unequivocally that Ethiopian troops are not prepared to continue paying heavy responsibilities indefinitely…”

    Our question should be:
Are you admitting for the first time that Ethiopian poor soldiers have been paying a heavy price? The massacre of Somalia mostly civilians have reached over 900,000 as we followed the media and some 2,000,000 civilians have been displaced. This is a war crime every Ethiopian should condemn. What we don’t know from our side is: How many soldiers have been killed for the sake of tyranny to stay in power but not to defend the country what so ever. What about the silencing of the mass media and keeping journalists in jails for they tried to write the truth? What about the Ethiopian lyrical, young and talented singer- Teddy Afro?
Why is he languishing in prison, is it because he sang “EGNA SENEWADED?”?

Face the crime perpetrated by tyranny and don’t try to drug innocent Ethiopia as a country and Ethiopians, as people in to your proxy wars.

    BEGEBAHIBET EGREH RASEH WITA.

    Ethiopia shall prevail!

Who will sentence these thugs to life in prison for all the crimes they committed against Ethiopians, Soamlians, and Eritreans on behalf of their master Dr. Frazer? Are they aware no matter what they bluff that nobody believe what they say or do? Do they know how annoying and hateful they are by the greater masses of Ethiopia or there is no shame to their game!

    AGAZI,
You really have a gut to put your pen name, which has become synonym to cold blooded cereal child killers, rapists of helpless and innocent villagers. Shame on you the least to say.
If you want to indicate that some one is “DEDEB MAYEM” at least change the word “MAYEM” to “MEHAIM”, which really represent yourself.
Why don’t you discuss on the substance? What have I say to prove me wrong? Occupying and mass murdering civilians in neighboring country is wrong and a serious crime which seeks an international criminal court charges.
Why do you try to “SHAT UP” every body by the use of force only, as you did to our beloved 76 million people? Please learn how to peacefully discuss and try to solve things in civilized ways. I am just using my freedom of speech to represent the opinion of most of my country men and women whom you have told “SHUT UP” by pointing guns on their heads.Leave Somalia for Somalis and get out of the country and Down with tyranny.
