Zenawi: no confirmed Somalia al Qaeda dead-FT

LONDON, Feb 5 (Reuters) - There has been no confirmation so far of any targeted al Qaeda suspects being killed in Somalia, Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi told the Financial Times in an interview published on Monday.Ethiopia is working closely with the United States to identify Islamist fighters killed in neighbouring Somalia in recent clashes, including U.S. air strikes, Meles said.

“We do not have definite information on a number of the key al Qaeda targets. There are reports that one or two of them might have died but we have no confirmation,” he told the FT.

Bloodied papers belonging to Aden Hashi Farah Ayro, head of an Islamist militia, had been found, but reported sightings of him suggest he may have survived, Meles was quoted by the newspaper as saying.

In addition, hardline Islamist leader Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys and Sheikh Hassan Turki are “alive and moving in and out of Kenya on the border,” he added.

Ethiopian troops and Somali interim government forces launched an offensive in late December that routed the Somali Islamists who had controlled most of south Somalia since June.

On Jan 24, U.S. officials said the United States had carried out a second air strike in Somalia.

Two weeks earlier an AC-130 plane killed what Washington said were eight al Qaeda-affiliated fighters hiding among Islamist remnants pushed to Somalia’s southern tip by Ethiopian and Somali government forces.

I don´t think Dr.Meles needs your approval for that case.
It is his hisorical mission to help his beloved Somalis to achive a democratical devolpment in order to fight poverty and backwordness.
Ask your master Afrewerkiii why the hell he was around ?

Meles is a confused dictator who lost touch with reality. He put himself in prison. He is very far from the Ethiopian people. Yet again he doesn’t seem to feel the heart bit of the Ethiopian people. He just keeps talking about Somalia everyday. There is no serious Ethiopian who gave a dame about Somalia and all that Meles’s crap. The question is free our leaders, free media, independent election board, and independent legal system. Then there will be peace for all Ethiopians, and then Woyannes themselves became free society for real.

cara said “I don´t think Dr.Meles needs your approval for that case”. I don’t know what you meant by this but I hope you’r not refering Ethiopians who are against the dictatorial regime. If so, then you must be member of EPRDF and you have the right to stand for the political organization of your choice. If P.M. Melese does what he wants to do without the will of the Ethiopian people, then every action he takes will be damaging to our nation and struggle for libration will continue unconditionaly in every corner. We are not gonna save our country from bloodshed ever this way though.

However, if the extremists propaganda, bringing somalia kingdom together by force, was true, I’m glad they are gone cause obviously they are a threat for the region.

May God bless Ethiopia and the people of Ethiopia who are sacrified thier life to bring justice, democracy and unity.

    Long live Ethiopia
