Little Ethiopia

Ethiopians all over the world will celebrate our own millennium in September 2007. To date, Millennium events are planned in grand fashion in Washington DC, London and Australia .
The Ethiopian Millennium Coordinating Committee of Los Angeles was established by interested individuals to have a millennium celebration for all Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopia in the West Coast.

The Coordinating Committee has held regular meetings to lay the ground work for this event to take place in Los Angeles around the first weekend in September. Our vision is to make the Los Angeles Millennium event a regional event in which Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopia from California, State of Washington, Oregon, Nevada etc join us for a three day event that will include symposium, art, music, cultural fashion show, youth program and poetry reading to celebrate Ethiopia’s uniqueness. Our objectives include introducing Ethiopia’s diverse
culture to others and to recognize remarkable Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopia who have made contributions to the betterment of Ethiopia and its people.

The Los Angeles Coordinating Committee held its first public meeting on Sunday, February 18, 2007 to announce its plans to invited community members. The Coordinating Committee is in the process of putting together a Millennium Celebration Committee(MCC) that will include Ethiopians from all walks of lives. We would like to invite interested individuals, businesses, non profit organizations and all faith based establishments to join us for this once in a life time event. We believe this will give our community an opportunity to introduce the rich history of Ethiopia to other communities and be part of the legacy that the coming generation will be proud of.

“tatek” it sounds like you are pretty upset that Ethiopians are going to commemorate the Ethiopian Millennium in major cities in the world. It would be nice that all of us go back to Ethiopia and celebrate it there. But, as you know weyane shed the blood of our brothers and sisters, incarcerate our leaders, close all the free media outlets and make Ethiopia a police state. For those reasons there are thousands and thousands of Ethiopians who don’t want to celebrate the millennium with weyane. If you have any problem with Ethiopians celebrating the Millennium overseas, probably you should deal with the source of your problem. That is Meles Zenawi.

It is a good alternative for those of us who are not able to go to Addis for one reason or another. By the way Neftegnas are Ethiopian too!!. When you say you are proud of your history and country, you should remember to thank Neftengas. The problem is not with Neftegnas but denqoros like you. You should learn to spell first before you knock your heros. Poor cadre, you probably think Meles is a hero. What can be expected from a moron!!!!!

    To all Ethiopians….
Listen if you have the gift, as it helps us learn and grow in more than one way.

Please do not waste your time, disputing over mediocre points. In the grand scheme of things, It doesn’t really matter who goes where to celebrate the Millenuim. After all, we are just counting 2000 in calendar terms. Ethiopian history and culture has been around much longer than that. In addition, trust me it will keep going for many thousand years to come!

Just truly and open heartedly, help one another! That is the only way that we Ethiopians could only succeed and prosper as a nation as people. Open your eyes and look around you, do you realize how entrpenuers, proffessionals, and other individuals from other cultures or backgrounds grow in this world? It is through respect, moderation, and positive support at work and at home! Please stop the tribal division and hatred.

    Yours tuely,

    Andualem Z
