ETHIOPIANS IN THE DC-METRO AREA RENEW COMMITMENT TO KINIJIT LEADERS AND TO THE DEMOCRATIC STRUGGLE
March 5, 2007
MARCH 4, 2007 CANDLE LIGHT VIGIL IN FRONT OF THE WHITE HOUSE HUGE SUCCESS.
Once again, Ethiopians came together in bitter cold to appeal to the US government to intervene on behalf of falsely accused Kinijit leaders and other citizens who continue to languish in Ethiopian prisons.
Several hundred, including young once braved below freezing temperature and 29 MPH wind which made holding of lighted candles quite challenging. At the candle light vigil, Dr. Ghebriye W/Rufael, member of the Kinijit International leadership and Ato Yilma Adamu, Chairman of Kinijit DC-Metro Support Chapter addressed the gathering.
Dr. Ghebriye lauded the bravery and unflinching commitment of Diaspora Ethiopians and assured them that their continued support keeps the spirit of the leaders and Ethiopians at home very much alive.
Ato Yilma reminded the group the road to democracy and human rights is a long one and does not end with the March 5 court ruling in what ever form it was going to come.
Kinijit DC-Metro Support Chapter organized the vigil in collaboration with KIL.
