Denver police have made an arrest in the murder of a 7-Eleven clerk over the weekend.

The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner says Natnael Mulugeta, 27, died of a perforating rifle wound to the chest. His death was ruled a homicide.

Police arrested Dale Wayne Baylis, 46, at a home on S. Logan Street at approximately 6 p.m. on Wednesday, according to Det. Sharon D. Avendaño with Denver police.

Police say Baylis entered a 7-Eleven in south Denver around 3:30 a.m. Saturday and shot Mulugeta before driving away in a silver vehicle. Mulugeta called 911 from an alley near the store, though it’s unclear how he ended up there.

“Over the next several days investigators conducted multiple interviews and were able to develop leads as to a possible suspect. These leads guided investigators to a suspect and his home at 1308 S. Logan Street,” Avendaño said in a prepared statement. “Members of the Denver Police Department set up surveillance on this location.”

7-Eleven spokeswoman Margaret Chabris says Mulugeta had worked at the store for five years and was working alone when he was shot.

Authorities have not released a possible motive in the case.
